I’ve been thinking much about the Stinger and just how disappointed I was in it. Bear in mind that this was only a base model with the 2.0T, so the GT might be completely different.

The problem with the Stinger is that it does not do anything that other cars already do much better. Sure, it drives nice, but the ATS and Giulia drive better. Sure, it looks nice, but the 3 Series and A4 look better. Sure, it feels nice on the inside, but the C-Class and IS feels better. It’s even bested by its own platform mate, the G70, by having the virtue of a manual transmission, an oddity in this market these days.

I guess it’s one quirk is that constant question: “That’s a Kia?” and the oddity of having a small executive sedan not built by the big 4 brands. But if I was in the market, I don’t think there’s much to sway me in this direction.

I’m of the opinion that the manual isn’t much of a virtue to the vast majority of the market .

With how the 3-series and C-class have become more common than say a Mazda 6, insurance costs are also up correspondingly.

M y 2013 Optima was probably a generation behind its competition in nearly all categories. While the styling was fantastic, the fi t and finish was blah, the interior was decently designed but not really that interesting, power was middling, and all around it was just average. I didn’t buy it because I wanted it, I bought it because I needed something roomier and it was cheap enough.

After it was totaled, I was very surprised to find how much I missed it. It may not have been a class-leader, but somehow it still had a personality. I’d totally consider another one.

Maybe I’m the Stinger’s actual target market.

In what sort of ways ? I have been looking at the new 3 series, as well as the Lexus RCs (as you know), but I've been looking at the G70 as an alternative to the BMW. And I'm wondering what the BMW has, that the Genesis doesn't.

I like the Stinger and G70. I test drove a G70 3.3T rwd today and honestly either it or a Stinger GT is probably my next car. I’ve got my thoroughly modded 335xi coupe but at some point I’m not going to want to deal with the stick shift and “sporty” ride comfort thanks to all the suspension stuff I have on it and rubber band tires on 19s .

I’ve had multiple BMWs which I bought because I like how they drive and in spite of the image associated with the brand, which I honestly want/need no part of. The biggest thing in favor of the Stinger & G70 is precisely that they’re from Kia & Hyundai. I would be very happy to no longer a tool in a BMW, they have good reliability & warranties and they’re cheap to fix. This is a good thing.

The Stinger & G70 might not be the best of the best of the performance entry luxury sedan segment but who cares? These aren’t track cars, they’re supposed to be reasonably comfy for slogging through boring normal driving on roads of sometimes questionable quality, but with enough power to shoot through traffic, and enough handling to be fun on a weekend excursion. And they’re legit comfy! This is good! I’m about to turn 37, I like fun cars but at this point I want some comfort dangit.

There’s already a decent enough amount of mods available for them if you want to go in that direction but honestly with the G70 I drove today it was sporty enough while still being way comfier than my car.

The 2.0t is a basically a RWD/AWD liftback alternative to turbocharged midsize sedans like an Accord or a Buick regal maybe or even within the same stable, the Optima.

With the V6 and all the other goodies that come with the GT is where it really shines on peformance+features value for money. See if you can drive one sometime, it’s really good and does 85% of what a German sport sedan does.

Yyellow stingers are available and are cheap(er) because of recalls on the paint. If you check the Carfax/Autocheck 9/10 times it would be a manufacturer buyback.

I still don’t understand Hyundai’s logic here. The allegedly sportier design doesn’t get it yet a pseudo-sport “luxury” car gets the stick.

The 2.0T isn’t trying to compete with the Audi A4, it’s competition is an accord or Camry, in those terms it’s a winner. The GT is a different animal.

IMHO the 2.0 is a better car; but as far as bang-per-buck goes its hard to beat the GT, specially as the Chevy ss is not on sale anymore

I really want an AWD 2.0. It would be a perfect car for me. I don’t need that much power and the hatch back would be great.
